GUNNAR Glasses Work? Are GUNNAR Glasses legit?

Here is my review on gunnar glasses, both the good and bad unbiased. I spend about... 12-14 hours a day in front of a computer. Most is not gaming, but still it was giving me headaches and eyeaches so I thought I would give these a go.

First Impressions

My first impression was, "EWWWWW this actually makes things brighter." The yellow tint does indeed brighten things up, but in a different way. It strips the blue light out and adds some yellow. Just a bit to get used too. Its not harsh.

A few hours later

After a few hours I had gotten used to the tint largely, and took them off and WOW. The screen seemed sooooo bright. A very blue bright. I quickly put them back on. So do they work? Yes they really relaxed my eyes a LOT and I can focus better.

...But?

Of course the glasses are not without fault. Part of it is just me, and part is the glasses. Having perfect vision I never wore glasses. My eyes are still getting used to focusing through glasses I guess. I also have a condition with one of my eyelids that annoys my right eye when wearing glasses, so that eye is a little tired but that's no fault of GUNNAR. However, the fault they do have is getting dirty VERY easily. I literally clean mine like 4 times a day.

That really is my only compliant so far. Its actually a common enough compliant. Just keep something handy to clean them. I use a lint free cloth with a bit of screen cleaner. Works quite nicely.

Do they do all they say they do?
  • Reduce eyestrain - Yes they are awesome at that.
  • Improve Resolution - Ehhh I personally think the yellow reduces resolution, but that may just be me. Since your eyes can relax and open more widely, you probably have the potential for better resolution
  • Improve Your Gaming - Well...not a heavy gamer but duh if you are not squinting and relaxed it will improve.
  • Moisten Eyes - Sounds like total nonsense, but I never have had that issue so cant say.
Finally Thoughts

 Not used to wearing glasses so my eyes are not really happy right now, but I don't think that is the fault of GUNNAR. My eyes are much less strained from the screen and relaxed. I will update in a week or so, with my thoughts. Stay posted!

Update 6/18/14

So I tried not wearing them for a bit, while waiting on them to dry from cleaning them. Literally felt a headache coming. Perhaps I'm addicted :( Anyway, as I said the yellow tint is a bit much. Well I was using my laptop and sudden thought "uhoh, no glasses" being late I didn't want the blue light making me sleep poorly, as I read that's one thing these glasses help with as well. Well...I was wearing them and didn't even notice it, so i would say I'm getting very used to the tint, and glasses in general. They still suck at staying clean...

Update 7/9/14

I love them now! I am used to glasses largely now. They are all good, still get dirty but I have learned how to deal with it. Little soap and water. And dry them GENTLE (or it will leave stuff on the lense) on my shirt. It works for me...

One word about headsets though...

I bought a surround sound headset. I love it, however GUNNAR is not just using their specialized gaming frames, as a marketing point. Its true, if you are going to wear a heavy headset GET THE THIN FRAMES. You will not regret it. These are eating into my ears making them sore. But I guess eventually they will just get tougher! :)

What they should change?

One thing! Its a common compliant how easily these get dirty and unclear. I guess the coating attracts dust or something. GUNNAR really should work on that and then they would have a perfect product. Until then, I will put up with cleaning them a few times a day, because my eyes love them.

Note To Graphical Artists

Unfortunately, when doing a little website design a thought I was making beautiful deep red/brown mix. I took off my glasses to clean them and it looked like someone's blood. Needless to say, probably not a good idea to wear the tinted glasses. GUNNAR does make non-tinted ones. I have never tried them though, so cant speak for them, but it is something to be aware of.

Final Verdict THEY ARE LEGIT - 9/10

Worth The Money - 9.5/10
Marketing Accuracy - 8/10
What your eyes say - 10/10
Comfort (normal thickness) - 8.5/10

Hresult 0x80131047 Fresh Project

Microsoft Hates Apostrophes

So this was noobish, but I discovered that this error is caused by an apostrophe in the Assembly Name. Bug in Visual Studio apparently.

I named the new project Steve'sApp. A project name like that is fine, but be sure to change the Assembly Name to not include the apostrophe.

I would hope any common sense person could discover this on their own, but if you were including a bunch of assemblies I can see how this might throw you you for a while.

Visual Studio 2012 Keeps Crashing All The Time

The Problem:
I recently decided to upgrade to VS 2012 on a Windows 7 machine. Well, it seemed like anytime I did something, it would crash. For example in C#, expanding the toolbox would crash it, and so would double-clicking, say, a button to get to the click even handler. Furthermore I couldn't compile either. Basically  VS 2012 was worthless.

The Solution:
I re-installed but to no avail. I updated, and still no luck. Finally all that was left was the .NET Framework. I noticed it had installed 4.5 but in turn windows features on an off, only 3.5 was listed.
--------------
I uninstalled the .NET Framework 4.5, and then 4.0. Then I installed 4 and 4.5. Worked great.

What Caused it?
Possibly because I had Visual Studio 2010 installed too, but that's just a guess.

How to center a form in the screen that currently holds the cursor.

Hi all! Ever needed a way to center a form in the display that currently harbors the mouse pointer? With the below code and my class, which you can download here, this is very easy. All my code does is take a Point and return the index number of the Screen.AllScreens element that contains the point. You could do many things with this class, and the below is just one of many. The below code will center the form on loading, to the screen the mouse pointer is in. In this way if the user has a multi-monitor system and double clicks the program shortcut icon, the program will start in the screen where the icon resides.

private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)

        {

            Point location = new Point();

            int CurrentScreencall = CurrentScreencall.CurrentScreenOfPointer(MousePosition);

            location.X = (Screen.AllScreens[CurrentScreencall].Bounds.Width - this.Width)/2;

            location.X = (Screen.AllScreens[CurrentScreencall].Bounds.Height - this.Height) / 2;

            location.Offset(Screen.AllScreens[CurrentScreencall].Bounds.Location);

            this.Location = location;

        }

If you guys have any questions leave comments! Hope this helps someone! :)

How to keep your cursor from slipping into your second monitor.

It seems as if Microsoft does not take multi-monitor support too seriously. With their new OS (Windows 8) they have added some additional multi-monitor features, but still did not address the common problem of the cursor slipping into your second screen so easily. With the addition of "charms" in Windows 8 the need to limit your cursor to the boundaries of a specific screen is essential because charms are only activated when your pointer is within just a few pixels of the edge of the display.

The solution to this problem can be found through Mouse Trapper, which I developed.  Mouse Trapper is a program that prevents the cursor from slipping into another display in a multi-monitor setup by requiring a hotkey to be pressed in order to allow the pointer to pass into another screen. After which, the pointer is trapped in that display until the hotkey is pressed again.  The interface is very simple and self explanatory.

A new an enhanced version has just been released, featuring the ability to select which monitors have slipping protection, and a wonderful cursor locator. You can find all the details about Mouse Trapper and then newest version here.

Mouse Trapper has been featured on several sites, including CNET:
