First Impressions
My first impression was, "EWWWWW this actually makes things brighter." The yellow tint does indeed brighten things up, but in a different way. It strips the blue light out and adds some yellow. Just a bit to get used too. Its not harsh.
A few hours later
After a few hours I had gotten used to the tint largely, and took them off and WOW. The screen seemed sooooo bright. A very blue bright. I quickly put them back on. So do they work? Yes they really relaxed my eyes a LOT and I can focus better.
...But?
Of course the glasses are not without fault. Part of it is just me, and part is the glasses. Having perfect vision I never wore glasses. My eyes are still getting used to focusing through glasses I guess. I also have a condition with one of my eyelids that annoys my right eye when wearing glasses, so that eye is a little tired but that's no fault of GUNNAR. However, the fault they do have is getting dirty VERY easily. I literally clean mine like 4 times a day.
That really is my only compliant so far. Its actually a common enough compliant. Just keep something handy to clean them. I use a lint free cloth with a bit of screen cleaner. Works quite nicely.
Do they do all they say they do?
- Reduce eyestrain - Yes they are awesome at that.
- Improve Resolution - Ehhh I personally think the yellow reduces resolution, but that may just be me. Since your eyes can relax and open more widely, you probably have the potential for better resolution
- Improve Your Gaming - Well...not a heavy gamer but duh if you are not squinting and relaxed it will improve.
- Moisten Eyes - Sounds like total nonsense, but I never have had that issue so cant say.
Finally Thoughts
Not used to wearing glasses so my eyes are not really happy right now, but I don't think that is the fault of GUNNAR. My eyes are much less strained from the screen and relaxed. I will update in a week or so, with my thoughts. Stay posted!
Update 6/18/14
So I tried not wearing them for a bit, while waiting on them to dry from cleaning them. Literally felt a headache coming. Perhaps I'm addicted :( Anyway, as I said the yellow tint is a bit much. Well I was using my laptop and sudden thought "uhoh, no glasses" being late I didn't want the blue light making me sleep poorly, as I read that's one thing these glasses help with as well. Well...I was wearing them and didn't even notice it, so i would say I'm getting very used to the tint, and glasses in general. They still suck at staying clean...
Update 7/9/14
I love them now! I am used to glasses largely now. They are all good, still get dirty but I have learned how to deal with it. Little soap and water. And dry them GENTLE (or it will leave stuff on the lense) on my shirt. It works for me...
One word about headsets though...
I bought a surround sound headset. I love it, however GUNNAR is not just using their specialized gaming frames, as a marketing point. Its true, if you are going to wear a heavy headset GET THE THIN FRAMES. You will not regret it. These are eating into my ears making them sore. But I guess eventually they will just get tougher! :)
What they should change?
One thing! Its a common compliant how easily these get dirty and unclear. I guess the coating attracts dust or something. GUNNAR really should work on that and then they would have a perfect product. Until then, I will put up with cleaning them a few times a day, because my eyes love them.
Note To Graphical Artists
Unfortunately, when doing a little website design a thought I was making beautiful deep red/brown mix. I took off my glasses to clean them and it looked like someone's blood. Needless to say, probably not a good idea to wear the tinted glasses. GUNNAR does make non-tinted ones. I have never tried them though, so cant speak for them, but it is something to be aware of.
